Parnica lakes

Educational Trail by the Lakes of Párnica Beautiful lakes can be found near the village of Párnica, formed in the former gravel pits, now creating an oxbow lake of the Orava River. This area has developed into a fascinating ecosystem, recently inhabited by beavers. To make this hidden gem more accessible, an educational nature trail was built in 2016. The trail is 1.5 kilometers long and takes about 30 minutes at a brisk pace. If you take time to read all the informational panels about local plants, animals, and other natural features, the walk may take up to 1.5 hours. The path is also welcoming to cyclists.

Though not connected to any official hiking trail, the self-guided loop trail is well-visited—especially by families with children spending holidays in the area. It offers a pleasant and educational walk where kids can have fun while parents enjoy a peaceful break. The trail begins at the bus stop in Párnica, where an information board and directional signs are located. Trail focus: Nature education, conservation, local history Trail type: Self-guided, circular, bidirectional, pedestrian, open year-round Connection to marked tourist trails: None Additional Notes: A trailhead info board with basic details is located in the bus stop shelter in Párnica. Several unofficial paths lead around the lakes, beyond the marked educational route. High water levels, rainy weather, or mosquitoes in summer may affect trail conditions. The trail includes wooden footbridges and a long pontoon bridge over one of the ponds.
