Attention, High Mountain Hikers! Babia Hora Is a Must-Visit If you’re a fan of serious alpine hiking and haven’t yet visited Babia hora (1,725 m a.s.l.), it’s time to change that. As the northernmost panoramic viewpoint in Slovakia, Babia hora (also known by its Polish name Babia Góra) is a popular destination thanks to its breathtaking views and pristine natural surroundings. The mountain is accessible year-round via marked hiking trails, offering excellent trekking experiences for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Challenging Weather – Pack Wisely The weather on Babia hora can be unpredictable and is often cold, windy, and rainy—even in summer. Warm clothing is highly recommended in all seasons, as the summit can be damp and chilly. Clear views require a bit of luck, but if you plan your hike for a sunny day, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramas. This peak was also a favorite of Karol Wojtyła (Pope John Paul II), who frequently visited it as the Bishop of Kraków. Cultural Tip: Visit Hviezdoslav’s Forest Lodge If you're hiking from Oravská Polhora, don’t miss Hviezdoslav's Forest Lodge (Hviezdoslavova hájovňa), which lies along the trail. The lodge, open during visitor hours, served as an inspiration to the famous Slovak poet and playwright P. O. Hviezdoslav.
