Technical treasures
Orava has a number of technical treasures that can be visited for short trips into the distant past. You can ride an old historical train, experience the atmosphere of an old iron mill, or discover tai chi.
Orava Forest Railway, Oravská Lesná
The reconstructed narrow-gauge switchback railway is 3.5 km long and lies between the stations Tanečník and Beskyd Saddle. It is a relic of the Orava section of the former Kysuce–Orava Forest Railway, which transported timber from 1918 to 1971. The railway was reconstructed under the Orava Museum project and started operation in 2008.

Orava hydroelectric power plant, Námestovo, Tvrdošín
An extensive hydroelectric power plant was built between 1941 and 1954 at the confluence of the White and Black Orava to prevent flooding, which was frequent. The plant is a part of the Orava Reservoir, which joins an equalizing reservoir in Tvrdošín. The middle of the reservoir features Slanica Island of Art, which is used as an exposition for Orava Gallery. Orava Reservoir is a sought-after place for water sports.
